explained

Student Loan Forgiveness is a government backed program that can reduce the principal and interest of a debt owed if you meet certain requirements. Student loan forgiveness programs are out there for everyone regardless of employment status, but there is an added benefit for people who work in public service, education, health care, and other areas.

We also help people that work in For-Profit Companies, who are currently unemployed, or choose to stay at home. Really, with all the forgiveness programs out there, we can usually find a program for you, whether you’re unemployed or making six-figures.

Forgiveness is the discharge of debt:

Forgiveness Programs lower your monthly payment starting immediately, and you recertify each year. Once you have successfully reached the end of your loan term, the remaining balance of your debt (including interest) is then discharged.

How much do I really save?

A standard payment is the default repayment plan given to borrowers once they are out of Grace Period and begin repayment of their loans. However, forgiveness is often the best option for those who qualify. Your enrollment specialist will go over all your options and assist you in making an informed decision. Below are some examples of how the programs compare:

Example A
Standard Payment Plan: If you borrowed $45,000 at 6.8%, your STANDARD payment would be $519, and the total amount you would pay over the lifetime of your student loans would be $62,143.

Forgiveness Program Example: If you borrowed $45,000, your FORGIVENESS payment would be $154, and the total amount you would pay over the lifetime of your student loans would be $36,960.

Monthly savings: $365
Total savings: $25,183

Example B
Standard Payment Plan: If you borrowed $15,000 at 6.8%, your STANDARD payment would be $173, and the total amount you would pay over the lifetime of your student loans would be $20,714.

Forgiveness Program Example: If you borrowed $15,000, your FORGIVENESS payment would be $10, and the total amount you would pay over the lifetime of your student loans would be $2,400.

Monthly savings: $163
Total savings: $12,600
